Photographers Statement:
In my 20+ years of recording photographs, I continue to marvel at the visual opportunities abounding this region, realizing that they are not without great effort from many folks. Be it, farmers that ultimately create patterns of wonder, preservation groups that target key landmarks adding to the mystique or conservation organizations that seek out and/or assist thoughtful folks in caring for properties with a vision of the future. To these and many other folks ... I am indebted ... in that my images are a reflection of their efforts. I appreciate these undertakings and with this show, look to complete the circle that I've come to embrace.
Thank you for supporting my vision and for your part in ... the circle.

"Re-light the Light"

The iconic 104 foot South Manitou Island Lighthouse is strategically located on the heavily trafficked Manitou Passage on the 300 mile eastern route from Chicago to Mackinaw. It identified both the passage and the most frequently used refuge on the Great Lakes. This historic beacon to shelter, commerce and growth has been dark for almost 50 years. Help us restore this light to its appropriate brilliance.

Leland Champion Tree

In 1901, Ozzie Cordes planted the Eastern Cottonwood that stands at the gateway to Leland's historic Fishtown. For the next 107 years, it thrived in that location and is now recognized as a Champion Tree. Two years ago, the tree was slated for removal, but was saved by an ad hoc citizens group who formed a nonprofit corporation and raised funds for annual maintenance and inspections by a licensed arborist. As word spread about this tree, filmmakers even came to Leland to include it in a documentary about Champion trees. To date, more than $7,000 has been spent to save the Leland Champion Tree. Funds are needed to support its care into the future.

Saving Birds Thru Habitat

... was established to help stem the decline of our migratory songbird populations. The three-cornered keystone of our program is to introduce children to the fascinating aspects of our bird world; to encourage homeowners to return their yards to native plantings, and to persuade businesses and property owners with large holdings to maintain existing habitat.
